Bimatoprost topical ophthalmic is a manmade form of a naturally occurring substance called a prostaglandin. Bimatoprost topical ophthalmic is used to treat hypotrichosis (abnormal growth of the eyelashes). This medicine helps increase the growth, length, thickness, and darkness of eyelashes. Bimatoprost topical ophthalmic may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Bimatoprost is a liquid solution used to treat ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma, conditions which increase pressure inside the eye. It is administered as eye drops. A prostaglandin analog, bimatoprost lowers this pressure by promoting the drainage of fluid from within the eye. Bimatoprost may cause light sensitivity, so they should be used with caution. People should not use this drug and then drive until they are certain how the drug will affect them.
