Fluticasone is a steroid. It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Fluticasone inhalation is used to prevent asthma attacks. Fluticasone inhalation will not treat an asthma attack that has already begun. Flovent HFA and Flovent Diskus are sometimes used together with an oral (taken by mouth) steroid medicine. Flovent brands of fluticasone inhalation are for use in adults and children who are at least 4 years old. The Arnuity Ellipta brand is for adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Fluticasone may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Flovent Diskus is a plastic packaged inhaler that contains a foiled blister strip, each blister containing white powder. The powder is composed of a mixture of micronized fluticasone propionate. The mixture is packaged in 50,100 and 250 mcg. It is packed in 12.5 mg formulation that contains lactose monohydrate, basically made of milk proteins. Once the inhaler is activated, the powder is then dispersed directly to the airstream that is made by the patient who inhales through the mouthpiece.
Flovent Diskus (fluticasone) is a medication that is used to prevent and control asthma symptoms. Flovent Diskus treats wheezing and breathe shortness which are the primary symptoms of asthma. Fluticasone is the primary agent in this drug, and it works by reducing the irritation and inflammation of bronchial tubes of the lung. Swollen bronchial tubes reduce the space for passing the air thus causing the wheezing sound due to pressure. Flovent Diskus is available in the form of an aerosol, and thus, it should be taken as an inhalation. This medication does not work right way after consumption and thus you should not use it as a reliever for a sudden asthma attack. Throat irritation and headache are some of the side effects of Flovent Diskus.
