Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Triamterene is a potassium-sparing diuretic that also prevents your body from absorbing too much salt and keeps your potassium levels from getting too low. The combination of hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene is used to treat fluid retention (edema) and high blood pressure (hypertension). Hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Dyazide has two ingredients that are active: Triameterene, which is a medicine that is known as potassium-sparing diuretic and the other one is known as hydrochlorothiazide which is known as thiazide diuretic. These two combinations of medicines are at times known as co-triamterene. Dyazide is known to reduce the amount of salt in the body.
