Zioptan (tafluprost ophthalmic) is a medication that treats high pressure in the eye caused by open-angle glaucoma. It can also be used to treat other eye diseases such as ocular hypertension, a condition that is caused by high pressure inside the eye due to excess fluid. Zioptan works by simply regulating the flow of fluid within the eye to maintain normal pressure. Note that high pressure in the eye is likely to cause blindness and cause severe pain and headaches. Patients that have a history of severe heart disease should not use Zioptan. Expectant mothers and women who breastfeed should do not use this drug. Slow or uneven heart rate, pounding heartbeats, and shallow breathing are some side effects of Zioptan.
