Valrubicin is a cancer medication that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Valrubicin is used to treat bladder cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body. Valrubicin is usually given after BCG (Bacillus Calmette and Guérin) has been tried without success. Valrubicin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Valstar (Valrubicin) is a semi-synthetic analog of anthracycline doxorubicin, a cytotoxic agent used for treating certain types of bladder cancer. Valstar acts by binding to DNA and block the synthesis of new DNA and also of DNA-dependent RNA synthesis, thus prevention of cancer cells from reproducing, and ultimately death of cancerous cells.
