Alfuzosin is in a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic (AL-fa ad-ren-ER-jik) blockers. Alfuzosin relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. Alfuzosin is used to improve urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). Alfuzosin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Uroxatral is used to increase the flow of urine in patients suffering from benign prostatic hyperlasia. Uroxatral contains an element called alpha blockers which relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck. This in turn allows the urethra to open wide, thereby making urinating easier . Uraxatral should not be used to treat high blood pressure.
