Basiliximab lowers your body's immune system. The immune system helps your body fight infections. The immune system can also fight or "reject" a transplanted organ such as a liver or kidney. This is because the immune system treats the new organ as an invader. Basiliximab is used with other medications to prevent organ rejection after a kidney transplant. Basiliximab may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Simulect (Basiliximab) is an immunosuppressant agent that is specially designed and formulated to prevent the immediate rejection of organ transplantation. It is specifically used in patients who are receiving a kidney transplant. The drug is known to lower the immune system during and after the kidney transplantation process since the body immune system treats new transplants as foreign parts.
