Dipyridamole keeps the platelets in your blood from coagulating (clotting) to prevent blood clots from forming on or around an artificial heart valve. Dipyridamole is used to prevent blood clots after heart valve replacement surgery. Dipyridamole may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Persantine is a drug that is used to prevent blood clot after one has undergone heart valve surgery. Persantine is used in combination with anticoagulants like warfarin. Persantine is a platelet inhibitor. It is thought to work by increasing the level of blood chemical known as adenosine, this in turn widens the blood vessels and decrease platelet activities.
