Oxcarbazepine is in a group of drugs called anticonvulsants, or antiepileptic drugs. It works by decreasing nerve impulses that cause seizures. Oxcarbazepine is used to treat partial seizures in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. Oxcarbazepine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Oxtellar-XR is an antieleptic drug (AED) that treats additional therapy in children ages six to seventeen and adults as component of partial seizures treatment. Oxtellar XR is available in generic form as oxcarbazepine and belongs to a drug class known as Dibenzazepine anticonvulsants. It is used with other medicines to slow abnormal nerve impulses occurring in the brains.
