A contagious disease, chickenpox is usually observed in but not limited to children and can easily be detected with red pockmarks and rashes on the skin. The infection is caused by a virus called Varicella-Zoster. After a person has been affected by the illness, he/she is not likely to get it again in their lives. However, the virus stays in the body and may sometimes get activated, resulting in a painful viral disease called Shingles. Although there is no cure for dementia, there are many treatment options to help stall its progress. Depending on what is causing your dementia, you may receive medical or therapeutic treatment. Regardless of the age of the person having smallpox, the infection results in a lot of irritation and physical exhaustion. The patient must at all cost remain indoors and resist from going out to public places including school or work. Smallpox runs its course in 10-15 days and the patient remains contagious during this period. Care must also be taken where there are susceptible people like newborn babies, pregnant women, older people or those suffering from any immune disabling disease.

Chickenpox Symptoms

Chicken Pox, often starts with some early symptoms in adults, including a headache, nausea, mild fever, sore throat and loss of appetite. These symptoms lead to the appearance of red spots and rashes in the oral cavity as well as on the face, head, torso, limbs, etc. after 1-2 days of the appearance of the early symptoms.

Children do not show any early symptom of the infection and the appearance of red spots in the oral cavity are among the first signs pointing towards the onset of the infection.

These red spots then go through the stages of blistering, bursting and formation of scabs in the next two days and new spots keep on appearing and changing into scabs for about 10 days.

The first sign of Chicken Pox, often occurs within the next 15-20 days of getting into contact with an infected person.

Chickenpox Diagnosis

Since chickenpox has characteristic symptoms, the diagnosis is primarily clinical. The doctor may inquire about the early symptoms or have the infected person/child tested to make sure. These tests are generally two types: blood tests or testing of the vesicular fluid from the rash.

Chickenpox Treatment

Although the person infected with chickenpox feels irritated and frustrated, there is nothing much that can be done but to wait for the infection to run its course and the blisters to crust up and fall. There are some medicines that can be taken to reduce the symptoms, including Paracetamol for reducing fever and a calamine lotion for itchiness.
