Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Metoprolol is a beta-blocker. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). The combination of hydrochlorothiazide and metoprolol is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Hydrochlorothiazide and metoprolol may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Dutoprol is a combination of two medications; an extended-release beta blocker plus a low dose of diuretic. These are two types of medication that are used to reduce high blood pressure. The beta blocker works by reducing the heart rate while the diuretic helps is the reduction of excess salt and water through urinating.
