Succimer is a chelating (binding) agent. Succimer binds to lead in the blood and allows it to be passed out in the urine. Succimer is used in the treatment of lead poisoning. Succimer may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.
Chemet is an organosulfur compound lead chelator medication that treats lead poisoning. It is available in generic form as dimercaptosuccinic acid, DMSA or Succimer, and it belongs to the drug class chelating agents. Chemet acts by trapping the lead in your body and removing it in the urine thus treating lead poisoning.
