Candesartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Candesartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Candesartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is sometimes given together with other blood pressure medications. Candesartan is also used to treat kidney problems caused by type 2 diabetes. Candesartan may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Atacand is an angiotensin receptor blocker, or ARB, typically used for treating high blood pressure (hypertension), which helps prevent strokes, and for treating kidney problems. Atacand is also used to treat heart failure and works by relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure to improve blood flow. Atacand can be used alone or in combination with other medications proven to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. Atacand requires a prescription and may be prescribed for other uses. Be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
