Bivalirudin keeps the platelets in your blood from coagulating (clotting) to prevent unwanted blood clots that can occur with certain heart or blood vessel conditions. Bivalirudin is used to prevent blood clots in people with severe chest pain or other conditions who are undergoing a procedure called angioplasty (to open blocked arteries). Bivalirudin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Angiomax (bivalirudin) is used to prevent blood clots when undergoing an angioplasty. The drug is a direct thrombin inhibitor and acts as an anticoagulant. An anticoagulant is used to prevent blood clotting in individuals. Angiomax helps to thin the blood and may be used in combination with other drugs.
