Emedastine is an anti-allergic medication. It inhibits processes in the body that cause allergic symptoms after exposure to an allergen. Emadine should be used on the eyes only. You are not supposed to wear contact lenses when the eyes appear red. Emadine should not come into contact with the lenses, meaning that you should remove them before administering the medicine. Emadine contains has a preservative and a benzalkonium chloride that is absorbed directly through soft contact lenses. If you use the lenses and the eye are not red you have to wait at least ten minutes after applying it, and before you insert the contact lenses. If allergic to any of the ingredients, you should not use the medication.
