Cetrorelix blocks the effects of the naturally occurring gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH controls the release of another hormone, luteinizing hormone (LH), which induces ovulation (release of an egg from the ovary) during the menstrual cycle. During hormone treatment for ovarian stimulation, premature ovulation may lead to eggs that are not suitable for fertilization. Cetrorelix blocks this undesirable premature ovulation. Cetrorelix is used to prevent premature ovulation during controlled ovarian stimulation. Cetrorelix may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Cetrotide prevents the effects of a naturally occurring gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH is responsible for controlling another hormone in the body, which induces ovulation; the hormone is called luteinizing hormone (LH). During hormone cure for ovarian stimulation, ovulating prematurely can result in eggs that are not fit for fertilization, Cetrotide works by blocking an undesirably premature ovulation.
